Fidel in the Sun of the Moral Values of the 21st Century

Fidel.- By: Santiago Romero, MSc.
Even when Chavez was still ill, he never tired of repeating that Fidel was like a father, the Pythagoras of the new times, like a prophet, whom he followed thanks to the comments of his mother who told him that on the radio “they were talking of a certain Fidel”. And so Chavez swore to meet him, the Pythagoras of these convulsive times of the 21st century.

And every time a story about Fidel came up, immediately, Chavez was silent, he was the best listener and disciple. In this he always reminded us of Camilo: “When Fidel speaks, the least a Cuban can do is to listen to him”.

In every August, Chávez rejoiced with Fidel, whom he called “daddy”, “father”, “my friend”, “my brother” because -undoubtedly- he had a very special feeling for the leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Fidel always talked about his childhood years, his studies in Santiago de Cuba, the problems in the little house in Loma delIntendente, the Belen School and the La Salle School. He told Chavez a lot about this, to the point that it was Fidel who propitiated and organized a visit of the Bolivarian leader to this city. “Get ready!” he told him in public.

Chavez knew a lot about Santiago de Cuba, but it was the first time he met with the people of the Cradle of the Revolution. I remember his first comments upon seeing the Sierra Maestra from the plane, the runway of the Antonio Maceo International Airport, the special visit to the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery and returning through the streets and avenues where the people cheered: Fidel, Chavez, Chavez and Fidel!

And to say Santiago de Cuba is to evoke Fidel.

It is time to overcome diagnoses and move on to actions

How many anecdotes such as those about the swimming crossing of the local bay; the visits of the Holguin family; the preparations for the Moncada heroic deed and that thought repeated by Abel SantamaríaCuadrado in 1953: “The one who must be saved is Fidel”.

Since that moral sun Fidel is always in the heart of this people as in all Cuba and every August the visits to the monolith in Santa Ifigenia are numerous, either with roses, photos and the eternal feeling that always extends a phrase of affection, a personal and collective commitment, expression of respect and honor to his person.

Fidel never left, in every setback his name always stands out as the Commander who led us both to victory and to maintain it, to the assimilation of diversity, joy and the greatest thing, respect.

Cuba condemned the violence in acts against the elimination of the blockade

The oldest prisoner of the Guantánamo naval base is released

Today, Fidel survives with the call to popular unity, to the necessary civic education, to respect and to put an end to prejudices that hinder, that denigrate and do not enhance, that slow down and do not develop, neither the individual nor society, as he warned very clearly during the difficult years of the special period.

Fidel represents the majority of a different kind of people that does not yield to pressures and blackmail, to the macabre manipulative algorithms in social networks and that will always have Respect as its main motto, as prioritized by the eternal leader, the Commander in Chief, from the Sun of Morality.
