Trade Union Conferences.- October goes day by day and with it many actions of the Central Union of Cuban Workers (CTC in Spanish) in Santiago de Cuba, such as the blood donation days, the volunteer work focused on food production and in support of the repair of the “Saturnino Lora” Provincial Hospital, the election of the six direct candidates for delegates to the 22nd Congress of the CTC, the analysis of Diaz Canel’s speech when last June he urged to leave theories and move to action; plus the support to the process of the meetings of the constituency delegate with his voters.
Orlando Beltran, Secretary General of the CTC in Santiago de Cuba, said that the supreme objective “is to advance in the fulfillment of the 2024 economic plan and the motivated response from workers for unity, the 72 years of the Moncada heroic deed, the 86 years of the Central Union of Cuban Workers and the 510 years of the foundation of Santiago”, supreme motivations for the coming year 2025.
It happens that within the economic program, the CTC also prioritizes exchanges with the new economic actors of the province of Santiago de Cuba, for the sake of the necessary advance of unionization, because this process implies better support and labor guarantee for those people linked to a MSME or self-employed.
In our opinion, among the best of these significant Union Conferences is the one held by Culture workers, which marked a milestone with the genuine representation it had, the demonstrations of the union in the municipalities, and for focusing on the solutions to the problems and not on the complaints and lamentations that disperse so much attention when the reorganization of the labor forces, the promotion of voluntary work, and the unity of a set of actions at the base are indispensable.
In addition to the promotion of young people in union leadership positions, we can also distinguish the role of females, of the recent graduates in the labor vanguard, following in the footsteps of the seasoned workers, of the most consecrated for years, the inter-union alliances, the assimilation of a new legal body: decrees, resolutions, and renovating articles; while the training, the learning in the weekly workshops of the CTC and the corresponding distinctions, medals, and recognitions do not stop.
For this reason, the representations of the ministries present in these union conferences, value as a timely reference the Santiago de Cuba response, the multiplied motivations despite the tense economic situation of the country before the calls to give up sound more, a reflective point that summarizes the majority of workers from their respective union when saying:
“Santiago is Santiago and with the effort of all, We shall overcome.”
