President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday noted the formal registration of Cuba’s Henry Reeve medical contingent as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.
On his Twitter account, the president recalled the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who said ‘doctors and not bombs’, which define the country’s internationalist attitude.
The World Council for Peace formally registered the candidacy, after highlighting the great challenges imposed by Covid-19 and the essential role of international solidarity in light of this emergency.
A representation of a score of national peace committees in some 100 countries signed the application letter sent to the Nobel Committee in Norway.
According to official statistics, Cuba has sent more than 3,700 medical collaborators, grouped in 46 brigades, to 39 countries and territories affected by Covid-19.
